Meet Ania Poniatowska, a creative make-up artist and hairstylist based in Dubai. The talent behind many Ounass campaigns and editorials, she knows her beauty. Originally from Poland, Ania moved to London to study her art and fully immerse herself in the industry.

Her introduction to Dubai and the region came with an influx of regional beauty education, the needs of Middle Eastern women, the trends we love and the products in every make-up bag. For Ania, “working with a different face every day is challenging. It never gets boring, though; I love new personalities and days at work that challenge me...” highlighting beauty needs under the desert sun. From the studio to shooting on set outside, Ania has honed her skills even when the summer arrives. Here, she shares some of her top tips for beauty in the face of extreme heat and humidity.

I would always say the easiest look to achieve is a no-make-up make-up look in this region. Just staying hydrated and using great skincare is my best advice. Add a touch of mascara to elevate your look, opting for a coloured formula for a playful feel. This season, I’m also loving brushed-up eyebrows and a satin lip, too.

Stay in the air conditioning! Seriously though, it’s all about using a very good primer. Try to wear less make-up, and even when you do, opt for waterproof mascaras and eyeliners to avoid any smudging. Finally, add an extra barrier of protection with a setting spray.

It all begins by drinking lots of water. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day with 30 SPF or higher. Ensure you are cleansing daily and exfoliate your skin a few times a week. Lastly, taking a holistic approach to beauty is important — that’s why exercise and eating healthy, and avoiding greasy foods is essential.
